Squid Pictures

Ok so this is not a squid, its an octopus :), but maybe some of our artistic members could make it more squidlike if we wanted to use this idea. Sorry its so small, but the signs say "Camp Allen," "Home of the Giant Squid," "Senior Staff" and "2009."

Get Your Ballots Ready!

Ok guys and gals, I copied all the tshirt ideas that we had so that everyone could see the list. I don't think I missed any, but if I did just say so.

We are hoping to get the shirt order in soon so that we can have the shirts asap, so let's get this ball rolling and put it to a vote. Since we don't have a bible verse idea list yet (to put on the shirt), maybe you can respond with your ONE vote and then a verse. Then we can go from there and narrow down the shirts and verse selections.

camp wisdom

okay 11 days!

i'm freakin out, anyway i just wanted to ask all of you to compile your years of wisdom of going to camp allen and tell me what i should pack. and any tricks to packing there are. i am really lost in this department so can you guys help me out?

Staff Shirts

Hey anybody got ideas for staff shirts this year (the ones we were for Eucharist)?? I think we should have the absolute coolest ones camp has ever seen...which means someone other than me needs to come up with the idea! :D So let the brainstorming begin!

Here's all I got:

- Blue shirts with the superman logo but with 2 S's for Senior Staff
- Some kind of Top Ten list for camp
- Camo shirts with neon orange letters (just so we would blend in a Eucharist lol )

Sneak Preview

Sneak Preview is coming up on Saturday, Jeff and Kenton are already coming. I need one or two more people... anybody want to work a few hours?

It's from 10 - 2 on Saturday, and I'll take you fishing afterwards. Or we'll do some marital arts training like Van Dam when he gets that old dude to drop coconuts on his abs... and then he does the splits a bunch of times... awesome.

we should all do something and try and hangout before camp. i don't really have any ideas.. but we should think of something :] and - there's only 40 days left until camp. like 40 days in the wilderness. and 40 days of raining on the ark. we can do it!

Monday Nights!!

The countdown says less than 65 days until camp!!!!!!!!!!! Whoop! :D

Ok, so a few of us have talked about doing Olympic games on Monday nights in place of the fair. We could have a whole opening ceremony at the Pavillion with togas and torches and cool head wreaths! Then each campsite would have their own Olympics with cabins "competing" against each other.

What do y'all think? What are some good Olympic competitions to have? Keep in mind that we want to include ALL of the campers, not just the athletic ones!

You all did so amazingly well this past weekend. Thank you for all your hard work, and for being so awesome. Everytime I think about this staff I can't help getting excited about this summer. You guys are going to be awesome, good luck on tests this week. Let me know if you need anything.

Solitude + Silence = Serenity

So I have started reading this blog a few months ago and recently I found this post that i copied for you all below. It blessed me greatly. everything in bold is a direct copy and paste, some of it is peiced together from multiple entries on the same topic. most of it though comes from the date below.

In another blog previously, i believe i quoted a saying that said "solitude is the furnace of transformation", but i have learned through the course of this week that i believe that it is not only solitude, but silence. try going one hour with no phone, no computer, no music, no talking, no internet, just you and serenity. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert, let us follow his example and spend an hour in our own wilderness. i don't think many of you will try it because a lot of us are afraid of the outcome... your afraid of what you might hear in the still, yourself. others will start, they will get away into the woods, and then 10 minutes into it their mind will begin to wander and think of 110 other things they should be doing, and 10 minutes after that return home to reply to that email or return that "urgent call". but if you succeed in going an entire hour of silence, not saying one word, in solitude, i think you will find one thing easier to discover...yourself.

On this topic of silence and solitude Wayne Dyer adds this... "It has been estimated that the average person has sixty thousand separate thoughts each and every day. The problem with this is that we have the same sixty thousand thoughts today that we had yesterday, and we'll repeat them again tomorrow. our minds are filled with the same chatter day in and day out. learning to be quiet and meditate involves figuring out a way to enter the spaces between your thoughts... in this silent empty space between your thoughts you can find a sense of total peace in a realm that is ordinarily unknowable."
spend some time alone, get inbetween your thoughts.

I had the oppertunity to spend the afternoon in the park when I remembered this blog. So I took away all the distractions wandered far enough away from the path to find silence and sat. It was wonderful! not everything i discovered was flattering or happy, but it was definitely a great way to disconnect from everything in the world and see some perspective on who you are. THEN bring your prayers before God. It becomes another prayer entiely! at least for me...

anyway, like I said I hope this blesses you like it blessed me. time to go to bed now! :)

Verse

Hey guys, I came across this verse last night, and it really just reminded me of our calling this summer..I hope this encourages you:

1 Peter 5:2-4
"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers - not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away."

I think this verse was alot of what Drew was talking about..how this summer is going to reap huge rewards for the kingdom..anyways, just thought I'd share it :)

OK so Camp Allen just became a person on Facebook... not an organization but an actual person. So make sure you request their friendship, and recommend lots of friends to them. I think we will use this site to communicate little pieces of info to big groups of people, and its another way we can let everyone know whats going on with the camp. I'll get Matt to make the profile stuff funny, its lame right now.

Dance Themes

So I am not exactly sure how we are going to pick dance themes this year, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to brainstorm and get some ideas out there!

1) Plaid Party - wear as many different plaids as you possibly can
2) Disneyland - everyone dresses as their favorite Disney character

i know we were talking about the whole water park kind of thing to do on monday night instead of the fair [yay] :] and i know we started talking about brooms you could ride on in the water and dolphins, but i really like the idea. i know we were thinking of a huge slip-n-slide thing but i don't know what else. so if you have any ideas.. :]

I just blew my nose and blog went everywhere... it was really disgusting.
